Two weeks after iOS 27 hit the public, Apple shipped the update everybody expected: iOS 27.0.1. It is not a feature drop. It is the first point release — the one that exists because the big launch always leaves a few landmines in the wild.
Get it the usual way: Settings → General → Software Update.
The fix Apple said was coming this week
Lead with the one that actually hurt. On iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, Face ID failing to authenticate could kick the phone into an unexpected restart. That is not a “reboot and try again” quirk. That is a trust-and-security surface eating itself.
Apple had already signaled a fix for this week. iOS 27.0.1 is that delivery. If you bought a new Pro and have been living with Face ID drama, this is your afternoon.
Camera color artifact (small number of Pros)
Apple’s notes also call out a color artifact on photos at 2x under certain lighting at f/1.48, again limited to a small number of iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max units. Narrow. Hardware-adjacent. Still the kind of thing that makes Pro buyers feel like beta testers with a receipt.
If your 2x shots look fine, move on. If they don’t, this is the build to grab before you start second-guessing the lens.
Notification Center + Control Center = frozen touch
The one that hits every iPhone on iOS 27: opening Notification Center and Control Center at the same time can leave the touchscreen unresponsive. That is a pure interaction bug — the kind of gesture collision that should never ship, and the kind that only shows up when millions of thumbs invent new ways to swipe.
Worth the update even if you do not own an 18 Pro.
iPad and Mac: same day, thinner notes
iPadOS 27.0.1 is out too. Apple’s notes say “bug fixes” and stop there. macOS Golden Gate 27.0.1 follows the same script — companion point release, unspecified fixes, same-day cadence. Do not invent drama where Apple refused to list any.
What this actually means
iOS 27 launched about two weeks ago. Point-one drops are the calendar catching up to reality: Face ID restarts on the new Pros, a niche camera artifact, a Control Center touch freeze for everyone else. Install it. Then stop refreshing the release notes for fireworks. There aren’t any — and that is the point.
